IPL 2026 latest news: No political symbols allowed at Chepauk

Since the political excitement across the state is already high, there were chances that fans could bring political symbols and party-related material into the stadium during the IPL match.

This forced CSK to ask the fans only to celebrate the game of cricket inside the stadium to avoid any controversy during this crucial match.

CSK wrote on social media: “Come celebrate cricket and the spirit of the game with us. Anbuden requests our superfans to avoid bringing banners, flags, or hoardings associated with any political party/person and enjoy the game with full yellove.”

When the Whistle ban shocked Chennai fans

Interestingly, this is not the first time Chepauk has seen controversy because of the political symbols. Earlier this year, during the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, fans had complained after whistles were reportedly banned at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Actually, whistles are strongly connected with CSK’s famous fan culture and the popular “Whistle Podu” slogan. At the same time, the whistle is also the election symbol of Vijay’s political party, which created confusion among fans.

Many fans were surprised after hearing that whistles were being banned at the stadium, as they are seen as a big part of the Chepauk match atmosphere. Reports also claimed that local vendors were warned against selling whistles outside the stadium at that time.

Later, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) clarified that neither they nor the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) nor the International Cricket Council (ICC) had banned whistles. According to TNCA, the instructions had come from local police authorities.

No clarity on MS Dhoni’s availability for CSK vs LSG

On the other hand, there is still no clarity on MS Dhoni’s availability for the IPL 2026 clash against LSG on Sunday. Dhoni has not yet played a single match this season due to a calf injury. The franchise has still not given any official update about Dhoni’s availability for the big match.
