Vaibhav Sooryavanshi breaks the unique six-hitting record formerly held by Abhishek Sharma
Abhishek Sharma, the other destructive batter from the Sunrisers Hyderabad den, had formerly held the record for most sixes in the powerplay overs with 29 sixes within the powerplay back in the record-breaking season of 2024.
With Vaibhav Sooryavanshi reaching this record milestone in T20 cricket, he launched Kagiso Rabada for two consecutive sixes in the second over of the innings. The dangerous-looking Sooryavanshi’s three sixes against the Titans pacer took him past the former record set by Abhishek Sharma.
The 15-year-old youngster has now smashed 32 sixes within the powerplay this season of the IPL. Abhishek is also trailing him with 27 sixes in the powerplay this season and might break his own record with several matches yet to be played this season.
Sooryavanshi’s eyes Abhishek Sharma’s all-time six-hitting record in the IPL
Having amassed 440 runs across 11 matches, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, at that tender age, is the new sensation in Indian cricket. Out of all those runs, Sooryavanshi has scored 359 runs with a staggering strike rate of 242.6 within the powerplay.
With such massive numbers, he has smashed 32 sixes within the powerplay, taking his total sixes tally to 40, the highest this season. Abhishek Sharma holds the former record of most sixes by an Indian in a single season of the IPL. He hit 42 of them back in 2024.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who is now three sixes away from breaking that record, might also be aiming for Chris Gayle’s all-time record of 59 sixes in a single IPL season. With three more group matches left this season and the Royals fighting for a playoff spot, this possibility remains firm.
